Since June 1, 2025, GoodCars has used a “rental fee + fuel charge” pricing system: every car comes with a dedicated fuel card, so you never pay for fuel yourself. Fuel and vehicle maintenance costs are charged according to the distance you actually drive — every kilometre is priced openly and transparently, so you pay only for what you use.
What is the fuel charge?
The fuel charge covers “fuel + vehicle wear and maintenance costs”. With a traditional rental, you have to find a petrol station and fill the tank before returning the car. At GoodCars, you receive a dedicated fuel card at pickup and simply pay with it whenever you refuel along the way — you never pay for fuel out of your own pocket, and there is no rush to fill up before you return the car. All driving costs are settled together through the fuel charge.
How is the fuel charge calculated?
Fuel charge = (return odometer − pickup odometer) × rate per km
The odometer reading is checked at both pickup and return. There is no limit on how far you can drive.
The rate per km is set by vehicle category and is adjusted in line with fuel prices and published on the official website. For the latest rates, please refer to the live notice on the official Fuel Charge Policy page; if you have any questions, you can also contact the branch.
Fuel card rules
- Whenever you need fuel along the way, always pay with the dedicated fuel card provided in the car — you don’t pay anything yourself.
- If you forget to use the fuel card and pay for fuel yourself, keep the receipt (invoice / payment record) and it will be credited in full against your fuel charge.
- If you pay for fuel yourself but cannot provide a receipt, the fuel charge for that distance is still charged in full at the published rate.
- If the fuel card is lost, a card replacement fee is charged, as published on the official website.
Four key features of the new system
- Transparent: every kilometre is clearly priced, so you can estimate your costs before you set off.
- Flexible: rental time and mileage combine freely — good value for short city trips and long road trips alike.
- No hidden fees: fair charges, settled on actual use, so you can rent with peace of mind.
- Stress-free driving: no hunting for petrol stations along the way and no rushing to fill up before return — your budget stays easy to manage.
FAQ
Q: Do scooters pay a fuel charge too?
Scooters (and vehicle types not listed in the published rates) are not charged a fuel charge; fuel is settled by returning the vehicle with the same fuel-gauge level as at pickup. Scooters do not come with a fuel card, so you refuel them yourself along the way.
Q: Will a long round-the-island trip be expensive?
The fuel charge already includes the cost of fuel — in effect, your “fuel money” becomes a transparent per-kilometre charge, with no limit on distance. For the actual rates, check the official announcement to estimate your cost.
